05/07/2006: ""Gamers the series?" by Christopher Folino"
Gamers the series?
It’s been talked about since we began shooting the movie and the only reason it could work is due to the main five actors. Kirkpatrick, Sherwood, Hanson, Rinker, and Nieves.
And “Big Ben” of course!
The more I watch the Sopranos and wonder, “Christ is anything ever going to happen?” the more I want to give a series a go.
I’d like to shoot six episodes with a twenty-two minute format and start it off with Johnny in the group and how The Reese character begs his way in.
We are attempting right now to get the main guys together to do a day of interviews and an audio commentary track for the movie.
We will sit down with them and go over the series idea. Hell, even if we shot it on HD and made it pay-per-view on the web we’d have a hell of time doing it.
Serious! Who doesn’t want to work with Joe Nieves and those other guys…most of who were on “The Ghost Whisperer”
Hell, I’m on that show next season and I didn’t even audition, CBS just sent me a chain letter saying if I promised to watch the show I could be on it! So I lied and said “yes!”
And if you watch more than six episodes they’ll make you a regular on the program!
So how is the distribution thing going you ask?
It’s been about 10 days I think? No word yet, we are sending over more copies to be sent out to distributors. We got a back up plan for self-distribution going so we don’t lose any time getting the film out in a few months. We are negotiating to keep the eighties music in and to find out if there are other eighties tracks that we can get. I don’t want to compromise on any part of the movie, however, reality does bite and it bites hard.
Everybody wants to be paid.
It would be a good thing to figure out if and how many pre-orders for the DVD we could get so we have a realistic expectations for sales.
I hope not only the Dungeons and Dragons crowd will come out to represent, I’m also banking on the battered house husbands to really throw down fifteen to twenty dollars for some escapism and male bonding with dice.

Yeah, but he knew you were just posting to get the number of posts up past 50...you were right though; it would be a good idea.

Didn't I make that suggestion to you a month or so ago? It's cool idea dude!

Why don't you put a form on the site for pre-orders; no cost as yet until the distribution thing is settled, but a simple form that asks for basic demographic info (which couldn't hurt to give to distributors either as a small sample of viewer/owner interest) and the promise of being emailed when the movie is available. Think of what Amazon's "notify me when this movie is available" gives them - lets them know who's interested and lets them post the number of people waiting to get others excited about the movie. At least it works like that for their "soon to be released" goat porn DVDs.
