03/04/2006: "IMDB MOVIEranking for "Gamers" at an all time high & much more by Christopher Folino"
“Gamers” took a giant jump on IMDB from a MOVIEranking of 6,217 on Feb 26th to a new ranking this week of 4,487.
That’s huge! I’m excited, the more awareness the better the odds this little bad boy can get a sweet distribution deal. It would be a dream come true.
I can proudly say that with the 14 new scenes we added and the re-edits and all the small attention to detail, we did our best and the movie is tight and funny.
After 20 years of dreaming and seven months of working on “Gamers” we are down to one day left of editing.
And then the true test for our ultra indie film will happen, we will be sending out screener copies to some press to review the film early next week.
But to who you ask? Well, I’ve spent the last few months trying to contact Harry Knowles from “Ain’t it cool news” and yesterday, he answered the phone and we spoke. It was so cool, and for a guy who must get every nut job calling him, he was gracious with me and we are sending him a screener copy next week.
Regardless of his review, we will post it or the link on the site. Harry can make or break you, and you know what we got nothing to lose. What’s the worst that can happen? I fail?
We made a movie for almost nothing, shot most of it on 35MM, and got real SAG actors!
I’m from El Monte, CA I’ve worked in public access, I worked for The Home Depot video taping people talking about wood! Making a movie that I’m proud of is a dream come true. I’ve made some great friends and we’ve got folks who want to see this film do well.
The Obsession, the Sacrifice, The Blind Dedication, this is our true story.
The best part of “Ghost Whisperer” last night was indeed Scott Allen Rinker.
Looking ghostly white and doing some fine acting, Scott stole the show from Jennifer and her two perky friends, left boob and right boob. Both her boobs did a fine job acting last night, however, Scott won me over with his acting.
Check Scott out in two weeks for part 2 of his guest appearance on “The Ghost Whisperer” and keep an eye out for Mr. Dave Hanson to appear on the same show.
One of the coolest things that has happened since we made this film is the support from folks we have never met. We have gotten a lot of love from Chuck in Austin he’s been kind enough to write about us on his blog and he started a fan site for “Gamers” and Jason in Florida has spread the word about the movie. By the way, how the hell are you guys doing? And now we got a new friend Derek Kagemann, from Bloomington, Indiana.
Derek writes for the Indiana Daily and he’s been very kind to us.
Look at this plug he gave us in his article, and this is just from seeing the clips on the website.
“These productions are rarely meant to be taken seriously. Often, they are self-deprecating. Geeks and gamers have a nonchalance about them that is often honed from being on the receiving end of misapprehensions and derisive laughter. However, attempts to fuse dorkdom with pretentious expressions of "serious" art have led to some unintentional comic gold. Regardless, a few good laughs are often the best way of feeding your inner-geek:
According to the movie's Web site, "'Gamers' is a comedy about the lives of four hapless friends (and one obsessive interloper) and how they evolve over a 23-year span." This mockumentary might be to role-playing games what "This is Spinal Tap" was to rock 'n' roll music. All in all, "Gamers" looks to be something halfway between "Super Troopers" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous." Though the movie isn't likely to make it to video for quite some time, the Web site features several hilarious video clips -- particularly the one for the song, "Wake Up Dick."
How cool is that from a guy who hasn’t seen the movie? So Derek, is going to write another article and is also working on a screening for the movie at the campus.
That’s an honor to me that somebody would put that kind of effort into something we created. It gives me a lot hope, this is an exciting time for “Gamers” and each day it gets cooler and cooler.
I’m very thankful for the experience and the opportunity to take a shot.
Will we hit the three pointer? God, only knows. But, I said this before, I’ve never been allowed in a game to try until now. So, I can swear to you and my children we will give it our best shot.
It’s not just a movie to us, it’s an event we are going to celebrate!
Tomorrow's blog will talk about the G-4 interview we taped for "Electric Playground."
Michael Bell proved he's funnier than Robin Williams on that shoot.
